Lourdes Samonte Malig

LOURDES SAMONTE MALIG, 82 of Mililani passed away on Good Friday, March 30, 2018 in Honolulu. She was born to Francisco and Letitia Samonte on October 26, 1935, in Cavite, Philippines and was the oldest of six children in a loving family. In 1962 she married the love of her life, Ruben.  Together they had two children, Leilani and Ruben, and were married for over 55 years. After living in the Philippines, Michigan and Illinois the family moved to Mililani, Hawaii in 1974 where she lived the rest of her life.

For many years, Lourdes worked as a store manager for the Schofield Main Exchange and Shoppette. Life after retirement involved spending time with her two beautiful grandchildren, Zachary and Emily, in Santa Clara, California. It was a priority for her to always be at their important events, communions, graduations and show performances.

Lourdes loved traveling with Ruben. Germany, Austria, Greece, Italy, Australia, Turkey and Belgium were just a few of the places they adventured to. New Zealand was her favorite. She also enjoyed spending time with family in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and California.

Lourdes loved dancing, reading, listening to music, spending time with family and friends and was a phenomenal cook. She hosted many memorable family parties and loved family gatherings. In addition to being a beloved wife, loving mother and devoted grandmother she was a cherished sister, caring aunty/godmother and loyal friend. Whether she knew you for a lifetime or just a few hours, she had the ability to make you feel loved. Our hearts are broken and we will miss her dearly but we know that she will live in our hearts forever and continue to be with us each and every day.

She is survived by her husband Ruben R. Malig; daughter Leilani Malig of New Jersey; son Ruben S. (Leinani) Malig of California; brothers Cesar (Teresita) Samonte; Francisco (Angelita) Samonte; sisters, Rosario Alonso and Elisa (Santiago) Mercado; sister-in-laws, Hannah (James) Miyachi and Louise Peardon; 2 grandchildren, Emily and Zachary Malig and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 9:30 am, Monday May 21, 2018 at St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church(95-370 Kuahelani Ave, Mililani, HI 96789) followed by Eulogy/Remembrance at 10:30 am and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will be at 12:30 pm, Monday May 21, 2018 at Mililani Memorial Park Cemetery.
