Franklin Ogao, Jr. Obituary

Franklin Ogao Jr. Was born in Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii.  He was raised with his parents and grandparents in Omao, Kauai.  His parents then took him and his siblings to Oahu, then back to Kauai, and then took them to San Francisco, California to finish his High School years there. While working for his uncle in Union City as a mechanic helper and their gas station attendant, he then graduated from the John O’Connell Vocational High School & Technology Institute with Honors.  Despite what took place, he then enlisted into the US Coast Guard and was stationed at Coast Guard Island Alameda, California, and went all over the world.  In 1962, he came back home to Oahu.  He then met his love, Gail Azevedo.  They got married on January 18, 1964 and started a family of three daughters, Lorideann, Francine, and Kimberly Ogao.  Franklin was honorably discharged from the USCG as a Quarter Master 2nd Class and settled in Oahu.

From 1965 to 1974, Franklin was a Heavy Equipment Repairman beginning his career in construction.  He became Chief Engineer on the Reef runway project “Dredge San Diego” and completed the project.  He then took two large dredges and support equipment from Honolulu to Dubai U.A.E. and had trained crews up to 30 people to operate the dredges.

In 1984, he was employed with Kiewet Pacific as Shift Foreman, managing a crew of 6.  He managed maintenance of 80-ton truck, largest backhoes in the world and cranes, earth movers and support equipment.

He also spent 2 years as a Master Mechanic at the Grand Hyatt Wailea project in Maui, working with 9 cranes, including 4 Liebherr 97K tower cranes, required extensive knowledge of electrical control systems.

After his project was done there, he came back to base at Pacific Construction as a Shop Foreman.  He maintained the in-house Hydraulic and Electro Hydraulic equipment.  He was responsible for the safety and supervision of the crane crew and supervised 10 men at the shop.

Frank was a great communicator with strong people skills.  In his lifetime, he has helped many men accomplish their capabilities to learn and work to be the man they are today. They acknowledged him for helping them out and being positive in this world we live in.  They mentioned his sternness to push them to do better and for his caring, kindness, and love.

Like any husband, father, and grandfather, he loved his family totally and would give up anything for his family and made sure they were taken cared of.

Franklin loved reading and learning, he thrived on education, the travel and knowing the world.  He was full of words of wisdom, like to give you food for thought.  He was humorous and liked joking with his family and friends.  Franklin loved music and dancing, especially his Borinqueno, spanish, singing and cutting the rug with his wife, Gail.  He loved baseball, planting and gardening.  He built his home to what he saw in his mind and was much of a perfectionist. It had to have a strong foundation and grounded, just as he was.  He was a Jack of All trades.  There was never a dull moment with him.  He liked to wine down and enjoy the company of his family and friends.  He liked his beer and scotch.  Always wanting to have intellectual conversations and wanting his family to have the knowledge of what's going on in this world, and what to do in any situation that may occur.  He was full of love, compassion, and he was always willing to help others.  He was a beautiful husband, father, and grandfather.  He was positive and strong in every which way life brought him and a very extraordinary man of his kind!

We all have a gift from God, and I believe Franklin was one of those blessings from God that touched everyone he met and got in contact with.   He fought to the end of his life on earth, and Jesus was ready to take him home.  He is loved deeply and missed tremendously and always will be.  We thank you all for being a part of Franklin Ogao’s life.  Thank you!

Much Love and Aloha,
