Gerald Hagino Obituary

GERALD "GERRY" TAKAO HAGINO July 31,1949 - June 21, 2023. Gerry was born in Puunene, Maui to the late Lynette (Higashida) and Masao Hagino. Survived by brothers David (Lou Ann), Timothy (Marilyn), and Keith and sister Bernice (Jim). Gerry attended Hilo Union Elementary school, Hilo Intermediate and graduated from Leilehua High School. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Hawaii. While working in the pineapple fields, Gerry met his future bride, Cindy (Haraguchi). They were married on June 30, 1973 and had three children: Steve (Amy) - children Raiden and Yuki; Dani Tokuda (Nolan) - daughter Taytum; and Sharyse - children Rylee and Ryplee. Gerry was an important delegate of the 1978 Hawaii Constitutional Convention and continued to serve in the Hawaii State Legislature from 1980-1994. While serving, he also worked at Hawaiian Independent Refinery for many years but his love for biology and agriculture found him working for Oceanic Institute and Del Monte before he retired from Monsanto.  For many years, he spent time with the Wahiawa Lions Club.  Although he was very busy, he always found time to volunteer as a coach for the sports his children played. After retirement, "Papa" became the primary babysitter for Taytum and Rylee. Every year he found ways to get all the grandkids together whether it was gathering in Hawaii, Chicago or taking a family trip altogether. He truly enjoyed watching them play together and making memories. Gerry was a quiet but passionate man that valued family. Funeral service will be on Wed, 9/27/23 at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Visitation will start at 5:30 and service to follow at 6:30.
