James Ortiz, 86, of Ewa Beach, Hawai’i was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2024, after a prolonged battle with cancer. In the end he went his way, at his home and in peace surrounded by the love of his family. James was born on July 18, 1937, to Baptista and Mary Ortiz and raised in Waipahu at the Plantation Village of Hawai’i. He graduated from Waipahu High School and received Jesus Christ into his life at the age of 30 at the Assembly of God in Ewa Beach. His greatest love was his Father in heaven to which he preached the good news of salvation until the end. He served as an Ironworker until his retirement and was a proud member of the Ironworkers Union 625 for 67 years, and a longtime member of the Puerto Rican Association of Hawai’i. He loved to sing and was often requested across the island to entertain touching many lives. He was especially fond of Karaoke, spending hours memorizing music which brought joy to his family and friends. He was known for his many hobbies, including spending time at the Kam Swap Meet where he spent his days witnessing and sharing the love of Jesus Christ to whomever would listen. He is survived by son Derrick Ortiz, brothers John Ortiz, Steven Ortiz, sisters Margaret Dominguez, Faith Estrada (Eddie) and sister-in-law Patricia Mata Rodriguez (Ortiz). Grandchildren, Davilyn Souter, Evelyn Hardy, Charylyn Wong, James “Kimo” Grant, Gaylyn Sanders, Chad (Krysta) Ortiz, and Joshua Ortiz. 18 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen Elizabeth Ortiz (Gutierres), daughter Gaylette Barnes (Bryan), daughter-in-law Elvira Ortiz, brothers Ernest Ortiz, Lechi Ortiz, David Ortiz, sister Nettie Vasquez, and his parents Baptista and Mary Ortiz.
