Patsy Angel Obituary

Patsy Aoki Angel (born Tsuyue Aoki) was the fifth child, but the first of three girls born to Shosaku & Kiyo Aoki.  Patsy was “third generation = a Sansei” born on April 2, 1928 in Aiea, Territory of Hawaii.  She married William (“Bill”) Theodore Angel of Chicago, Illinois, where they married on May 13, 1957.  After relocating back to the Aiea area, Patsy and Bill had two children, Beverly and Paul.  Patsy became a widow in 2007 when Bill passed away.  Patsy is survived by her children Beverly (Nancy), Paul, and her two sisters, Ella Kikuta and Frances (Tayoo) Kang.

Patsy attended Aiea elementary school where she met her life long, best friend, Stella (Mizusawa) Uno. Patsy went on to successfully complete the requirements of the E.J. Galusha Business School secretarial course in 1945 and later achieved her high school certificate – Adult Division in 1954.  Patsy began her civil service federal career at a very early age and eventually retired as a paralegal specialist with the Staff Judge Advocate Office at Sub-Base Pearl Harbor after 44+ years.  Still full of energy, Patsy went to work at the Hawaii State Legislator where she was employed for a few more years.

During her golden years, Patsy enjoyed winning (not just playing) at card games and dominos as well as going to the big picture screen movie theatres with her friends, churchgoers and on many occasions with her daughter.  She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Los Angeles at least once a year to visit Frances, Tayoo and the entire mainland Ohana.  Once in Los Angeles, road trips to Las Vegas and the nearby Indian casinos were a must...hitting the hungry slot machines and the endless food buffets.

And…as everyone knows, Patsy loved her doggies, first there was Rusty and later, the infamous Ruby dog, who passed last November.  Thanks again to all the friends and family who voted for Ruby to win Third Place in the 2020 Honolulu Magazine Photo Contest at the age of 19 years old.   This made Patsy very happy.

Patsy was baptized on April 2, 1950 by Pastor Glenn Evans of Aiea Community Church, now known as Aiea United Methodist Church (AUMC).  Patsy was a dedicated, life long member of the AUMC where she spent many Sundays (weekly service), Thursdays (Game Day Fellowship) and Fridays (volunteering on the Church Sunday service bulletin).  Patsy along with Stella and Judo Uno dedicated many, many years volunteering with the AUMC food service ministry feeding the homeless at the Institute for Human Services (IHS).

At age 93, Patsy had a wonderful life where she cheerfully interacted with many friends, family and acquaintances.  Patsy passed peacefully after her diagnosis of pancreatic and liver cancer only thirteen days earlier.   At Patsy’s request, her ashes will be scattered at sea along with the ashes of her beloved dog Ruby, just as Bill ‘s ashes were scattered at sea along with that of Rusty.

Celebration of Life service to be held on July 3, 2021 at Aiea United Methodist Church with visitation at 10am and the service to begin at 10:30am.
