Ryan was born on July 5, 1969 at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. He attended Our Savior Lutheran Preschool and Gus Webling Elementary School before attending the Kamehameha Schools – Kapālama from the 4th grade. In elementary school, he participated in Cub Scouts and served as the Ali’i (chief) during the school’s 1980 Makahiki. In high school, he was involved in many clubs and activities, most notably: the debate team, National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, Mu Alpha Theta, International Thespian Society, and served as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, Ka Mō’ī. He graduated Magna Cum Laude during the 1987 centennial anniversary of the Kamehameha Schools’ founding. In college, he participated in Accounting Club, AIESEC, and served in student leadership with Campus Crusade for Christ (known as Cru since 2011). He received a BBA in Accounting from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. He has worked for Honolulu Federal Credit Union since 1994: first in Loans, followed by 11 years in Branch Services and 10 years in Marketing and currently, Operations Support. He served on the ‘Aiea Neighborhood Board from June 2005 to May 2007. Besides being an arctophile and AFOL, he collects crosses, pandemic facemasks, milk caps/pogs, Johnny Cupcakes t-shirts, Starbucks “You Are Here” mugs, and Christmas ornaments from his extensive travels. He is survived by his parents, Rudolph & Priscilla Distajo; brother, Russell Distajo (Vanessa); nephew, Jasper Distajo and niece, Holland Distajo.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel. Visitation begins at 9:00 am and Program/Service at 10:00 am. Burial to follow 12:30 pm at Mililani Memorial Park.
