Adam Fernandez Obituary
ADAM CLARENCE FERNANDEZ, 75 of Waianae, HI, Went to Heaven in the early morning of Sunday, July 21, 2019.
Adam Clarence Fernandez was born on April 16, 1944 in the Oahu Sugar Co. Hospital He received his Baptismal at St. Joseph’s Church, Waipahu, Oahu at just 18 days old. He grew up in Waipahu-Ewa Beach area until he was 15 years old when his Parents Adam and Susannah Fernandez moved their O’hana; Adam and his three younger sisters Carol, Bernie & Toni to the Mainland and planted roots in Union City, California.
He loved music and sang often, enjoyed fishing, cooking & eating…As a young boy he learned to cook old family recipes by watching his Mother and was an excellent cook too…We all looked forward to Whak’in an Ono meal at Family gatherings!!! Dad was a joyful Guy and loved to put a smile on your face & crack you up with a funny joke…He was quite a rascal too!!!
He Graduated from James Logan High School in 1962 where he participated in sports and was awarded School Letters for Junior Varsity for Football and Wrestling!
Adam met Ruth Cordova at James Logan High School in Union City where they both graduated. In 1963 Adam married Ruth his High School Sweetheart and two years later they started their family and were blessed with their eldest daughter Leilani and eight years later grew to a family of four with another blessing of their youngest daughter T’Marii. T’Marii and her husband James Lopez had a baby girl in 1993 named Memorii Love which gave them their one and only Grandchild. Adam and Ruth’s marriage lasted for 17 yrs. but ended in divorce. They later both went on to find love again and marry other people.
Dad went to Hayward Adult Technical School and completed his 4 year Automotive Apprentice Course in 1969 and later became a Journeyman Auto Mechanic working at Golden Bay Chevrolet for many years. As a huge car enthusiast he restored a 1947 Pontiac and enjoyed owning several vehicles to name a few, a White 1968 Dodge Charger, a Green 1970 Monte Carlo and a Cool Black 1950 Chevy pickup.
When Dad moved to Hawaii he worked for Atlas Sales as a Truck driver delivering scaffolding all over the Island. He also worked for Marisco Ltd. as a Sandblaster & Painter. He later worked there again as a Mechanic until he retired in 2009.
Later in life Adam met Diane Nadeau they later moved to Waianae, Hawaii and were married in1988. They lived happily there for many years then one day Diane found out that she had cancer. She did all the treatments with Dad by her side every step of the way. During this time Diane’s sister Josie invited some friends from her church Shield of Faith to visit Dad & Diane at their home. The Lord sent His people to visit and minister to their hearts. I remember Dad saying that he could really feel the sincere Love of GOD from them. He said they are True Christians! From that point they both started attending Shield of Faith regularly and growing in their Walk with GOD and asked Jesus to come into their hearts…PRAISE GOD!!! Diane went into remission and GOD blessed them with eight years as Born Again Believers. They later attended New Hope Oahu Church for many years until Diane went to Heaven in August 2003.
I’m so grateful that Dad continued to follow the Lord and go to New Hope Oahu. He continued to Work, Cook, Watch Sports on T.V. and Fish at Pokai Bay. Many years past of Dad living life on his own with the Lord by his side still going to New Hope and that’s where one day he met Barbara Grimes. They dated and later she became his fiancé. I am so happy that the Lord brought them together and allowed Dad to find love again. They were a True Blessing to each other and shared ten plus years together.
During the last year and a half Dad’s health was progressively declining and Barbara became his Caregiver. She did an amazing job taking care of Dad with such dedication and love!!! Since March 2019 he went in and out of the hospital three times. He was stable enough to finally go home like he wanted to on Saturday, July 20th. He was happy to be home and to sleep in his own bed. The next morning just before 3 am, he woke up and said to Barbara, “I have to leave, I’m Sorry” and took his last breath and just like that Daddy went to Heaven!!!
GOD YOU ARE SO AMAZING…What a sweet way to go Home and be in Your Presence!!! What a Grand Reunion awaits those who know the Lord!!! I’m sure Heaven is a lot funnier since he arrived!!!
He is survived by his daughter Leilani & Andrew Molina (son in law), daughter T'Marii Lopez, granddaughter Memorii Love Lopez, sisters Bernie Awana and Toni Silva, fiance' Barbara Grimes and many nieces & nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
