Like Dwayne Lerma shared, I was also one of the many, many students from the University of Hawaii who benefitted greatly from Aileen’s kindness and guidance. She often went the “extra mile” to keep me and my fellow colleagues on the right track – stressing the importance of building skills for future independence. I am a veteran public-school teacher with more than 30 years’ experience. I am also a mother of two sons who make me proud every day. Aileen’s faith in me 40 years ago helped me become the strong woman that I am today. Mahalo, Aileen!
