Alan Patrick Suan, Sr., 71, passed away unexpectedly on February 4, 2025 in Pearl City, Hawaii. He was a beloved husband, father, papa, brother and friend, whose warmth, humor and kindness touched the lives of so many.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Janet Suan, and his children: Alan Patrick Suan, Jr (Michelle) of Wenatchee, WA; Stacey Tichenor (Mark) of Lacey, WA; Kelly Taguchi (Wade) of Castle Pines, CO; Nolan Miranda (Dawn) of Port Orchard, WA; and Jill Basconis (Derwin) of Pearl City, HI. He was adored by his 16 grandkids: Alan Suan III and Andrew Suan (Alan Patrick); Alex Tichenor and Josh Tichenor (Stacey); Rylan Taguchi and Talen Taguchi (Kelly); Kaleb Kapiko, Noah Miranda, Kristian Miranda and Kameron Miranda (Nolan); and Alexis, Devyn, Xailee, Cassius, Zion and Axxton (Jill).
Born to Conrad and Josephine Suan, Alan grew up in Waipahu, Hawaii, as one of 10 siblings: Hedi, Conrad, Michael, Ronald, Sandy, his twin Adrian, Dean, Vanessa and Marlyn. He attended Waipahu High School, where he met his first wife, Sharon Kaai. The two married in 1973, the same year Alan enlisted in the U.S. Army, beginning a distinguished 21-year Military career.
Alan served tours in Kaiserslautern, Germany; Fort Polk, Louisiana; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Seoul, Korea; and Fort Lewis, Washington. He was stationed primarily at Fort Lewis, where he raised his family and served in the 178th Maintenance Company, 32nd Air Defense Artillery (Patriot) Battalion, 9th Infantry Division. He retired in 1994 as a First Sergeant (E8). After retiring from the military, he continued his public service working for 10 years as a Correctional Officer with the WA State Department of Corrections.
In 2003, Alan reconnected with his high school classmate, Janet Alejado, at a reunion. They married in 2005, building a beautiful life together in Hawaii, blending their families and creating cherished memories. They traveled the world, visiting Europe and Asia, and spent much of their time on the mainland with their children and grandchildren. Alan and Jan enjoyed their time together going to family functions, talking stories, playing cards, dancing, they especially loved going to Las Vegas where they first met at the California Hotel.
Alan had a larger-than-life presence, and he made everyone around him feel special, making friends everywhere he went. He loved golfing, fishing, watching his movies, ping pong, and most of all, spending time with his grandkids.
A public memorial service will be held on Monday, March 24 at 5:30 PM at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary. His family invites all who knew and loved him to come together and celebrate his remarkable life.
