Alexis Onaona "Ona" Souza's Obituary
Alexis Onaona “Ona” (In) Souza, 82, of Wai‘anae, Hawai‘i, passed peacefully at home on March 27, 2026, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.
Born in January 1944 in Honolulu, she was raised in Nānākuli and later made her home in Hālawa. She attended Kamehameha Schools graduating in 1961 and continued her studies at Lake Forest College, carrying with her a deep appreciation for learning and connection.
To those who knew her best, she was simply “Ona”—a woman whose kindness was steady, whose presence brought ease, and whose generosity was felt in both quiet moments and shared laughter. She loved to read, and she loved to cook—but more than anything, she loved people. Her kitchen was often the center of her world, where meals became memories and love was always on the table.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Halford “Sam” Souza; her sister Betty Fisher(Alan); her children, Sandy Souza-deLeon(Carl)and Sam Souza Jr(Kimberly).; her grandchildren, Kalei Souza-Bauer(Drew), Kainoa Souza Chaves(Taylor), Sky “Nalu” Kekona-Souza, Halle Souza, Lawson deLeon, Kamalu deLeon; and her great-grandchildren, Kaysen Souza-Stevens, Keegan Souza-Stevens, Liam Bauer, Jad-Roman Souza-Schubert, Koen Sky Souza-Simeona, Eliana Souza, and Tate Souza.
Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the love she so generously gave.
A private family service will be held.
