Alfred Visperas Martinez, 81, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on May 10, 2023. He was born on August 1, 1941 in Mangaldan, Pangasinan, Philippines.
Alfred began his career in the U.S. Navy where he served as a wartime Dental Assistant aboard ship and eventually trained to become a Data Processing Technician First Class. As a result of his service, Alfred received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, RVN Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and multiple Good Conduct Awards. He retired with the rank of Petty Officer First Class.
Upon retirement from the U.S. Military, U.S. Navy Reserve, and a brief career as a realtor, Alfred worked as a Computer and IT Specialist for the Defense Information Agency, Pacific with multiple awards and leadership positions.
Alfred was very active in many roles in community organizations including, The United Pangasinan of Hawaii, The Knights of Columbus, Cavitenians & Associates of Hawaii, The Pangasinan Club of Hawaii, and the United Urdaneta and Associates of Hawaii. He was also involved as an organizer of many events and reunion committees.
He gave of himself to God, family, country, and community.
Alfred is survived by wife, Susan Martinez; son, Melord (Eloisa) Martinez; grandsons, Brooks Anthony Martinez, Kelsen Jake Martinez; and numerous nieces and nephews in Philippines.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Holy Family Church (830 Main St., Honolulu, HI). Visitation begins at 9:30 am, and service to start at 11:00 am. Committal Service to follow 1:00 pm at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe.
