Alfredo Currimao Dela Cruz's Obituary
ALFREDO CURRIMAO DELA CRUZ
It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the peaceful passing of a beloved husband, a hardworking father, and a gentle and devoted grandfather, Alfredo Currimao Dela Cruz, who passed away on April 26, 2026, at the age of 83, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, surrounded by his loving family, including his wife Arsenia, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, and son-in-law.
Alfredo was born on November 8, 1942, in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, to Rafael Ulep Dela Cruz and Serafina Saoit Currimao. Fondly known as “Fred” to family, relatives, and those from his hometown of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; “Ama” to his children; “Lolo” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and “Guapo” to a few close friends, he was loved by many throughout his life. He was the fourth of nine children in a family of three boys and six girls.
Alfredo was also a faithful member of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente, also known as the Aglipayan Church. Raised in a humble household sustained through blacksmithing, Alfredo embodied the values of hard work, honesty, patience, and resilience. Due to financial hardship, he was unable to continue school beyond the third grade. At the age of 10, he began learning his father’s trade of blacksmithing. Over the years, as he perfected his craft, he became well known and respected in his community, both for the excellence of his work and the genuine, personal attention he gave to his customers. Beyond blacksmithing, Alfredo also worked in the rice fields to earn additional income for his family. He took pride in his self-reliance, honest labor, and providing for those he loved.
Alfredo met the love of his life, Arsenia, during his adolescence, and they were married on October 28, 1964. Together they shared 61 years of marriage, celebrating their golden anniversary in the Philippines in December 2014. Alfredo and Arsenia were blessed with seven children. Their eldest daughter, Maria Lina, sadly passed away after only three days of life. Their surviving children — Leonida, Lany, Cynthia, Wilfredo, Soledad, and Warlito — became the pride and joy of their lives. Together with his beloved wife, Alfredo worked tirelessly and faithfully to provide for his family. Despite many hardships, Alfredo and Arsenia remained steadfast in their dreams and aspirations for their family, guided always by their strong faith in God and their determination to overcome every challenge.
Alfredo was petitioned by his sister, Esther, and immigrated to Hawaii on November 1, 1998, with his wife and two children, Soledad and Warlito, in search of greater opportunities and a better future for his family. He was employed at McDonald’s in Kailua for 20 years and spent many Saturdays doing yard work to earn additional income. Through years of dedication and tireless sacrifice, Alfredo supported not only his immediate family but also the education of his grandchildren in the Philippines. The savings he and Arsenia earned through their perseverance eventually allowed them to build a home in the Philippines.
After retiring, Alfredo enjoyed gardening and caring for the yard and home in Makaha. His industriousness was remarkable. Using only modest tools and materials, he meticulously fashioned precise, elegant, and inventive solutions. Though his English was limited, he often interacted with neighbors who, despite the language barrier, grew to love him for his cheerful personality, tireless work ethic, and warm spirit.
Alfredo was a man of few words, a strict yet loving father whose discipline, guidance, and unwavering support shaped his children into the people they are today. While devoted to his children, he held a special affection for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Their presence during his final hours — both in person and through video calls from the Philippines — was a testament to the deep love and bond they shared with him. Alfredo will be remembered as an honest, industrious, caring, and generous man whose life was defined by sacrifice and devotion to family.
Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Alfredo’s life on June 27, 2026, at Mililani Mortuary Downtown, from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
Alfredo will return home to the Philippines on June 30, 2026. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the enduring legacy Alfredo leaves behind — a legacy of hard work, honesty, strength, kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for family.
Rest in Love. Rest in Paradise. Rest in Peace, Ama. Your memory will live forever in our hearts, with love, always.
