Anita Rickard Obituary
LaDawn Rickard
75, of Ewa Beach, Hawai’i, passed away peacefully on June 15th at home surrounded by her family. Born on October 7, 1946, she is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gary, sons Rick (Gina Marie) and Ryan, daughter Gina, and 7 grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Gary Fergus (Marianne), Jenny Allgrunn (Carl), Mary Lynn Adams (John), and Bette Jo Adams, and nieces and nephews.
LaDawn, also known as Mom, Nana, or Mrs. Rickard, was a beautiful, fun, loving, hardworking, firm, dedicated person who believed in a good education and strong family values. Born in Logan, Utah, LaDawn attended Weber High School and later Weber State University where she met her husband, Gary Rickard from Honolulu, Hawai’i. At 19 years old she moved to Hawai’i to start a new life with her new husband. After settling down in Ewa Beach in 1971, LaDawn worked as a receptionist at a dental office in Ewa Beach. She later took a receptionist position at the old Fronk Clinic where Pali Momi now stands. She then moved over to the West Oahu Medical Clinic when Fronk Clinic was torn down and finished her career working for a private practice back at the Pali Momi Complex as the Office Manager.
Before and after her retirement in 2004, LaDawn enjoyed her life relaxing, reading, hanging out with her family, gardening, watching her favorite sports teams, and traveling with her husband. She looked forward to her daily cocktail hour with her husband at 5pm at home or at the beach house. Their adventures included travels on large cruise ships, trips to Japan, Canada, Las Vegas, and various national parks. Her favorite trips were to visit her youngest son and 5 granddaughters in Arizona, and to visit her eldest granddaughter in Washington while she attended college.
LaDawn filled the gaps between her travels by partnering up with her husband to do volunteer work. They assisted the kupuna in their community by delivering meals on wheels for 16 years. Working with the “Parade Man” and other friends they built and decorated parade floats and coordinated parades for 17 years. LaDawn also volunteered to work alongside family friends at several Keiki Hula events over the years.
The family would like to thank Navian Hospice, A Helper for All (home care services), and the Kaiser Oncology department.
“MOM” will be missed dearly by her family, but she will continue to live on in their hearts and memories.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel. Visitation 5:30 pm. Services 6:30 pm.
To protect our Kupuna, the family requests masks be worn indoors.
