Arthur "Butch" Lewis Simpson Jr.'s Obituary
Arthur Lewis Simpson Jr known affectionately to all as “Butch".
He peacefully began his next journey on March 1, 2026. He passed unexpectedly wrapped in the warmth and comfort of the "village" that loved him so dearly. Born on February 10, 1960, Butch’s heart was always rooted in family.
Raised from his early days on Halekou Road in Kāne‘ohe to his eventual return to Wilhelmina Rise, he lived a life that brought him back to his mother’s family's foundations.
As the youngest of six, Butch now reunites with those who went before him: his parents, Arthur Sr. and Mary Josephine Keali’iaukai Akau, and his siblings Margo, Mern, Philibert, and Herman Jr.
His memory and spirit live on through his sister, Mary Kay Kealaonalani (Stephanie); his beloved wife, Rene Kulialani; and his cherished four-legged family, Pe’a and Cupid.
He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, a laugh anyone could recognize, We are all better for having known him.
His journey was one of deep joy, rooted in humility, simplicity, and a tireless work ethic. A proud son of the islands, he grew up attending King Intermediate before graduating with the Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Class of 1978.
After continuing his studies at DeVry University, he began a long and dedicated career at Hawaiian Telephone in 1980— a milestone made even more special as it was there that he met his beloved wife, Rene.
His commitment to his colleagues was evident through his devoted service to IBEW 1357. By rising to the E-Board and lending his voice to the contract negotiations team, he earned the profound respect of his peers, ultimately being honored with the Trustworthy Award—a true testament to the integrity and heart he brought to everything he did.
We will honor him on Both islands
