Ayako "Ike" Detwiler Obituary
Ayako “Ike” Detwiler, 91, of Mililani, Hawaii passed away on April 15, 2025. She was born in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan.
In the mid-1950's, she met and married a handsome American GI, Vincent Detwiler, and began her new life as an Army wife, traveling the world and towing 5 rambunctious children along. The family eventually settled in Hawaii and laid down roots. Ayako or "Ike" to friends, mom or Grandma to family, loved traveling, playing the taishogoto and attending church services.
She is survived by children Gregg, Neal (Jamie), Veronica Sasaki (Kevin), Jack (Brenda), Donald (Sunny); 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; siblings Morio Iyobe (Setsuko), Osamu Iyobe, Koji Iyobe (Misae), Mitsuko "Michiko" Ishikawa; nephews and nieces.
A private service will be held.
