Baker “Hook” Pua Kaniania Hookano, age 75, of Mililani, Hawaiʻi, passed away on January 5, 2026, at Tripler Army Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones.
Baker “Hook”was born on February 2, 1950, in Wailuku, Maui, to William Pua Kaniania Hookano and Caroline Kaiaakamanu Hookano. From an early age, he was known for his humor and strength—qualities that remained evident throughout his life.
Baker “Hook” proudly served in the United States Army for 23 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his service, he was stationed in Hawaiʻi, Germany, Korea, and various locations throughout the United States. He received numerous awards, decorations, and commendations over the course of his career and carried the values of service, duty, and integrity well beyond his military https://service.Following his military career, Baker continued working in security services. Above all, he cherished his family, friendships, and his passion for sports.
Baker “Hook” is survived by his spouse, Beulah “BJ”; daughters Irish Demaree and Lisa Hookano; stepson Derek Anderson; brothers Francis “Butch” Hookano and Lawrence “Larry” Hookano; sister Mary Ann Brash; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepson Quincy Anderson and grandson Kaeden Kealiʻi-Hookano Walters.
A celebration of life will be held on February 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Haleʻiwa Aliʻi Beach Park, where family and friends are invited to gather and share memories.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held on February 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).
