Bernadette 'Bunny' Vasconcellos Obituary
Bernadette Ku`ulei Vasconcellos, a long-time resident of Waialua, Oahu, died in Wahiawa on September 1, 2018, after a long illness. She was born in Waialua Hospital on June 16, 1950, and grew up among the many loving family members and friends of the Waialua Plantation community. Her parents were Henry Joseph Vaspra and Virginia Maile Vaspra, both deceased. Her husband, also deceased, was Patrick Mahealani Vasconcellos. She is survived by her daughters, Heidi Marie Vaspra and Sarah Maile Vasconcellos, her siblings Antoinette Leahey (Jim), Lenwood Vaspra (Catie) and Steven Vaspra, nieces and nephews, aunt Jackie Gouveia and many cousins.
Bunny, as she was affectionately called, worked as an educational coordinator at Waimea Falls Park until she needed to take care of her ailing husband and Mom. But she loved working at the Falls, leading student groups on tours and learning about the Hawaiian culture and history that permeates the valley and the district of Waialua. She also loved her art, saturating large canvases with beautiful, bright colors and imaginative shapes. And she loved her family, especially her “girls”, her friends and making new ones. She will be fondly remembered for her “rascal” personality and a smile that lit up a room.
Services will be at St. Michael’s Church in Waialua on October 13, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by scattering of ashes in the ocean off Ali`i Beach.
