Charlene Saemi Murata's Obituary
Charlene (Sha) Saemi Arakawa Murata of Mililani passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 23, 2026, just two days after her 77th birthday.
Born to Shigemi and Molly Arakawa, Sha grew up in Waipahu, playing with her two brothers and many cousins in the family compound. She also worked in the Arakawa's department store. Sha was an enthusiastic cheerleader at Mid-Pacific Institute and graduated in 1967. After graduating from the University of Hawaii in1971, Sha started her teaching career at Waipahu Elementary School.
After her marriage, Sha moved to Mililani and had a son, Wayde Shigemi Murata in 1981. She was active with his school and sports activities and opened her home to his many friends. She retired from Wheeler Intermediate School in 2012. However, her retirement days continued to be busy as Sha cared for her grandchildren, became an active member of the HSTA-Retiree organization and mentored younger teachers. Sha was an avid sports fan, enjoyed many arts and crafts projects and enjoyed reading novels. The teachers and other students in her grandchildren's schools were often gifted with holiday goodie bags and special treats.
Sha is survived by her son Wayde, cherished grandchildren, Kaito, Syoto and Emma Murata, her brothers, Myron (Ellen) Arakawa and Cosmo (Ann) Arakawa, and many nieces and nephews. They will miss her generosity, thoughtfulness and unwavering support.
Sha's life will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Mililani Memorial Park and Mortuary, Mauka Chapel. Visitation 5:30 PM; Service 6:30pm. No Flowers please.
