Charles Ichiyama Obituary
Charles M. Ichiyama, 92, of Waipahu, passed away at Queens Medical Center - West Oahu on December 21, 2024. He was born in Pa’auhau, Hawaii to Motoka and Ayako (Fujimoto) Ichiyama on June 12, 1932.
The family moved to Lana’i and then to Oahu. He graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute and Honolulu Vocational School.
He was a proud veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1953. He then was employed as an Electrician Journeyman at various companies and eventually owned his own business, Country Electric, from 1961 to 1982. He then worked at the Sheraton Princess Ka’iulani Hotel as a Foreman, Maintenance Electrician from 1982 to 2003, and then City Mill.
After retiring from Princess Ka’iulani and City Mill, he continued to enjoy many hobbies with Iris and friends. He always loved golfing with his golf buddies and also danced at the Ala Wai Clubhouse with Iris and friends. He, Iris, and friends took many trips to the Ninth Island, Las Vegas for many years. This continued until his late 80’s. He took daily walks and was an avid gardener. His last hoorah was his very last trip to Las Vegas with Iris and family in September 2024.
Charles is survived by his companion Iris Kurosawa, her daughters Karen (Richard) Momono, Susan (Allan) Johnston, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred (nee Fukushima) in 1977 and son Bryan in 1995. He is survived by daughter Kathy (Noel) Hashimoto, sons Vans, Jay (Wendy) Ichiyama, and sister Thelma Sakuma, sister-in-law Amy Ichiyama, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by brothers George (Akiko), Robert (Clara), and Harold (Amy) Ichiyama.
He lived a long and good life and will be be deeply missed. May his memory live on in our hearts forever.
