Cheryl, I wanted to text you this morning, like I've done in the past...but for whatever reason, I "googled" your name and ...

My sincere, heartfelt condolences to your family and loved ones. You were not only the "best" hair stylist and miracle worker, but a cherished friend. The times spent over the years, sitting in your "mental health chair" would bring laughter and joy to me. You're one-of-a-kind, Cheryl. Always thoughtful and mindful of others. Never demanding; always putting others first before yourself. Over the years, we coursed our way through 4 salons. And when you told me that you had to stop working....

Miss you so much! Want your family to know that she spoke so lovingly of all of you! And she really admired what each of you had accomplished in your lives and how it made her heart happy.

I'm sure there isn't a day that goes by that you haven't thought about her. May those memories bring peace and comfort to you.

Cheryl was my dear hair dresser friend. She was a perfectionist is doing my hair. She was so good at it. She was a great conversationalist also. We'd talk about her dog how she didn't want to move him when he was taking up the whole bed, outings with her friends at different restaurants, how long her Christmas tree and wreath lasted, how good her brother was at buying them crab, how her Dad loved going to Vegas, what a Saint her sister was in caring for her Dad, and how motion sickness kept her from traveling except to Vegas. She was a warm and kind friend. She went out of her way to go to the parking paying machine to show me how it worked. I miss her.

I first met Cheryl in 1979 when I was looking for someone to give me a new look for my 10th high school reunion...lots of long thick hair to be removed! I asked the Liberty House salon at Pearl Ridge to give me their best stylist...and that led to her taking care of me until 2024, when she retired. She helped me, and her other clients in so many ways beyond our hair. I used to joke with her that she should add an additional fee for counseling services. She patiently shared my joys and frustrations through all the steps along my journey through the Department of Education. She listened sympathetically to the challenges I shared as I tried to assist struggling family members. She sent flowers when I was sick and when I retired, and we laughed together through the ups and downs of our health journeys...we shared problematic thyroids! She generously laughed at my funny cat pictures...through the lifetimes of three cats. During the last 10 years or so when she reduced her hours, appointments with her were my top priority...my secretary at the BOE knew not to ever ask me to change that on my calendar...everything else had to find a place around my monthly hair appointments. When we started making appointments a year out, it was clear no one wanted to miss time with Cheryl! I loved her Las Vegas stories and have never met anyone else with her good fortune...well deserved "karma", I think! I miss her very much and will always think of her with love and aloha. She is one of the treasured relationships of my lifetime.My deep condolences to her family and all who loved her. She made a difference for those who were lucky to know her.

Cheryl was the best hugger—long and hard!! And as she hugged you, she always whispered something sweet in your ear…”I haven’t seen you in so long, I miss you’” or “I love your hair” (lol);)When Cheryl spoke to you, she looked you in the eye, with her occasional squint if she didn’t understand something you were saying. She would stop you mid-speech to verify her understanding of what you were saying. She gave you her undivided attention and really listened. I loved that about Cheryl.I will miss her forever.(Aimee, you’re the best sister ever taking take of Cheryl 24/7 this past year)

For as long as I can remember, Cheryl was the de facto caretaker for us three younger siblings, left in charge while Mom and Dad were working hard to give us a good life. She set the tone for our familial relationship, the gentle center of our family.For me, Cheryl provided a safe harbor. She protected me, listened to my childish stories, did the housework on Saturdays while I read books, got me ready for school, stayed up late nights while I finished my homework.Later, she welcomed me into her home after college, and then when I returned from California. She just accepted me, no questions asked nor judgment passed.The memory that defines our relationship best is this: Small kid time, we didn’t buy cases of soda like we do now. Occasionally Mom would get a six-pack of Coca-Cola (in greenish glass bottles), and Cheryl and I would share a precious bottle. Cheryl always let me have the last sip. And that thoughtfulness, sacrifice and big-sisterness lasted all her life.Cheryl, I miss you, I love you, and I thank you. From your “little big sister”

Auntie Cheryl was always so welcoming, including us in her family traditions and celebrations. I will never forget her making a point to ask me about my life and asking me questions, even when I was little. She will be missed by many and has left a lasting impression on my life. Cheryl will always be in my heart. She was the best shoulder to cry on, she had the biggest smile when you had good news, she listened without judgement when you needed to vent and she always spoke from the heart. She was a deep down good person. I will miss her so much. Say hi to my family when you see them Cheryl. Love you always.

Cheryl was my dearest friend during the 8.5yrs I lived in Hawaii. Cheryl and her sister Aimee were in my wedding. I lived with Cheryl and her daughter for awhileI saw her a couple yrs ago when I finally got back to Hawaii. Having lunch, laughing over things we did was priceless. I miss her deeply but she has peace and with her daughter Sayoko
