Clayton Kimoto Obituary
Clayton Kazumi Kimoto passed away on November 1, 2022, at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. He was a graduate of Kaimuki High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa and received his masters and doctorate in education from Case Western Reserve University and Washington State University. He was a reading specialist in special education in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada and an assistant superintendent of education in Thorhild, Alberta. In 1977 he married Jean Ishikawa and they returned to Hawaii three years later. Clay taught at the Kapiolani and Leeward Community Colleges and the University of Hawaii before going on to receive his law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law. He worked for the Office of the Public Defender before going into private practice.
Clay enjoyed jogging daily along the Pearl City bike path and swimming laps at the YMCA. He completed several Honolulu Marathons during his lifetime. He enjoyed vacations on the neighbor islands with the grandchildren, visited Alaska, Japan, Hokkaido, northern Yorkshire, and Europe, and went on cruises in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Russia, and along the US east and west coasts. He was a master chef and prepared feasts for the family most weekends.
He was moderator of Pearl City Community Church and served on the boards of Sunrise Foundation, Community Kokua Foundation for Fire Safety and Recovery, Lumanai and House for All.
Clay is survived by his wife Jean, sons Evan (Elna) and Erich (Annie) and three grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mililani Memorial Park Mauka Chapel on Saturday, February 11, 2023, visitation at 5:30 and service at 6:30 p.m.
