Clement Tetsuo Fujimoto's Obituary
Clement Fujimoto Obituary
Clement Tetsuo Fujimoto’s extraordinary life came to an end on Nov 15, 2020 at the Hi’olani Care Center at Kahala Nui. He was born on April 18, 1939, the youngest of six children of Masao and Yoshi Fujimoto. Even from the earliest days at Kaiulani Elementary School, he set very high goals for himself, and perfection was the only option.
Clement lived the values taught by his parents ... valuing friendships, showing kindness, and being concerned for others. Humility was his defining characteristic.
Upon graduating from Farrington High School, Class of ’57, he was awarded a four year scholarship to UH Manoa where he continued his outstanding record in academics, as well as participating in all aspects of student government. It was no surprise when Clem was named a Real Dean with his incredible list of accomplishments while maintaining a 3.9 grade average for four years. With diploma in hand, he began his career in education at Leilehua High School as a counselor, then went to graduate school at Columbia University. Returning to Hawaii with a Master of Education degree in counseling, he worked at the Legislative Reference Bureau researching and writing educational bills for legislative review. Later Clem accepted an offer to join the staff of Hawaii’s first Ombudsman Office. The Ombudsman saw Clem’s impressive work and encouraged him to go to law school… and Clement did.
He completed his studies, graduating from the UH Richardson School of Law.He felt a stronger calling to academia, and rather than practicing law, he became an academic counselor at Leeward Community College (LCC). He enjoyed every minute of his work advising hundreds of students in their educational and career goals. He also served with distinction as the executive assistant to the Chancellor until his retirement.
Clement is survived by sisters Joan Momohara, Jane( Don) Okinaka, and brother Calvin (Chiyo ), plus many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceasing Clem were parents Masao & Yoshi Fujimoto, and brothers Clifford and Gilbert.
