Consuelo Vios Tenio's Obituary
Known to family and friends as “Luleng” and “Connie,” Mrs. Consuelo Vios Tenio, 93, passed away in Olympia, Washington, on December 17, 2025, after prolonged illness, and was welcomed into the peace of Christ. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and friend.
Connie was born and grew up in the plantation town of Waialua, Oahu. She was part of a family of five brothers and two sisters, founded by her Visayan immigrant parents from Siquijor, Philippines. She graduated from Waialua High School in 1950 and briefly attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa. As a teenager, she sang popular Filipino songs on the radio as part of a trio, along with her elder (predeceased) sister, Mrs. Rosalina Bayona, and their cousin. Later, she also greatly enjoyed singing in the choir along with her sister at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani, after moving back to Oahu following the death of her husband in 2002.
After getting married to her late husband, Joseph V. Tenio (1927 – 2002), in 1965 in Los Angeles, she settled in California, also calling Gardena and Stockton home at various times.
When her husband became disabled in the mid-1970s, Connie worked hard to support her family. She eventually retired as an office specialist for San Joaquin County, California in the late 1990s.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane (John) T. Rogers, and her son, Derek Tenio.
Her memorial service will be held on January 22 at 5:00 pm at the Mililani Memorial Downtown Chapel in Honolulu. Public members are welcome. Donations gratefully accepted.
