Daniel "Butch" Tadashi Hironaka's Obituary
DANIEL “BUTCH” TADASHI HIRONAKA, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026.
Butch was born in Waialua on March 17, 1938, to Takeo and Hatsuyo Hironaka. He was a graduate of Waialua High School. He graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Bachelor of Education degree and was part of the ROTC program. He then served in the U.S. Army followed by his service in the Army Reserves. Butch started his career with the State of Hawaii Dept. of Education in 1963 as a teacher at Molokai High School and then Aiea High School in 1964 where he also coached football, cross country, and track. He met Amy Nobuhara of Honolulu through mutual friends, and they were married in Honolulu on August 17, 1968. He became the Athletic Director at Aiea High School in 1971 and retired in June 1995.
Butch was an avid golfer and sports fan and enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Amy, brother Charles (Thelma), son Davin, son Dayne (Kana), granddaughter Kira, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Sunday, May 3 at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary. Visitation will be at 5:30pm, service at 6:30pm, and refreshments and food to follow. The family kindly requests no flowers.
