DAVID CHUNG, JR. Obituary
DAVID C.Y CHUNG JR. (AKA) “KAWIKA” “INYOUNG” 61, of Honolulu, HI., passed away at Queen’s Medical Center on Sunday March 24, 2024.
Kawika Jr, as known by many, was born January 1, 1963 in Kona, HI. to David and Priscilla Chung. He is the middle child with an older sister, Nadine and a younger sister, Devera.
The family moved to Honolulu where Kawika attended Moanalua High School. Despite the traffic, he had a passion for driving people around and so worked as a taxi driver in the island of Hawaii and California,a tour bus operator for Trans Hawaiian and also for Robert’s Hawaii as a school bus driver. He later began working for the Department of Education as a school security for Kaimuki High School and had been there 22 years until his passing.
Kawika, Loved Sports. He was a ride or die fan for the Chicago Bulls & The Dallas Cowboys. Although a Moanalua Menehune Alumni, he enjoyed high school basketball & football, often working as security for the games, he cheered for Dem Bulldogs-“Who Let Da Dogs Out, Who, Who, Who?” Kawika was an avid bowler and on Saturday nights we bowled at Leeward Bowling Alley, in Pearl City. Our all star team consisted of Kawika, his parents, sister, Devera and myself. Win, lose, or draw it was pretty challenging at times but we looked forward to the challenge and we enjoyed these best of times together.
Kawika also had a passion for his ukulele and singing. In his spare time you could catch him sitting in front of his fan playing his ukulele and singing his favorite Hawaiian songs, some of which were composed by his Dad. He also loved hula dancing, couple of his favorites were Ulupalakua and I Kona.
I will surely miss the good old days w/my Inyoung, Kawika, (aka)David Chang Yen Chung Jr. So as the sunsets for my love and we lay his body to rest. I say, we will miss U, until we meet again “Aloha ‘Oe” Sweetheart.
Memorial Sunset Service will be held at Pokai Bay on Saturday August 24, 2024 from 4-7pm.
Aloha for Now.
