The Waialua "Old Timers" know that my dad David Santiago Sr is not "from" Kapolei. They also know that he was not born in Honolulu--even though his birth certificate states he was. My father's birth was a home birth in Waialua. He was born to Emily Marcella Santiago and Waialua Plantation worker Alfred Santiago, Sr. He walked from their residence in Waialua to attend Haleiwa Elementary School and he graduated from Waialua High School. He worked for Waialua Plantation and lived in a Waialua Plantation Camp house. He later became a meat cutter for the Honolulu Meat Cutting Company, but he still resided in Waialua/Ranch Camp. He became a butcher for Fujioka Store in Waialua. His final job was an agricultural technician for the UH at the Poamoho Experimental Station--still he lived in Waialua. He lived in Waialua for 90 years. He lived in Kapolei for a little less than 1 year before God called him to Paradise. He lived and breathed WAIALUA--was and will always be WAIALUA STRONG! Love you Daddy!
