Debbie Laureta Obituary
A Tribute to Our Shining Star
On November 14, 2024, the world lost a little of its color, but heaven gained one spectacular streak of purple. Our Debbie, known for rocking her signature purple hair and leaving trails of laughter wherever she went, left us unexpectedly—but true to her spirit, she’s probably cracking jokes up there right now, leaving angels in stitches.
As a hairdresser, she knew more than just scissors and styles; she knew hearts. Every strand she touched carried her sunshine, brightening days and building confidence. And oh, her loyal clientele! They didn’t just leave with fabulous hair—they left with fuller hearts, lighter spirits, and probably a funny story or two. Her work BFF, Deb M. and extremely loyal staff, formed the dream team that made each day brighter and unforgetable.
She was a master of comic relief, bringing joy even during life's tough knots. Living with severe type-1 diabetes from the age of 10, she faced every obstacle with resilience, never losing her humor or zest for life. Instagram reels were her kryptonite—hours of scrolling, laughing, and finding that one perfect clip to share with her besties.
Music and travel were her soul’s playlist, and her love for animals was endless. But her biggest love was for her family, friends & fur babies. She was fiercely protective, deeply loyal, and took immense pride in her nieces and nephews—Tony, Michael, Christopher, Suzie, Troy, Cheesa, Nicholas, Christian & Nikki. To her, they were more than family; they were her heartbeats.
For 24 years, she shared her life with her partner in love, Paul, with a loyalty and devotion that would make even the movies envious. She also shared deep bonds with her siblings, Robert & Kathy, Maria - we call her Ilona, Theresia & Shawn, Tenie & Alan — each memory with them, now a priceless treasure.
She was sunshine in human form, purple hair and all, and though she’s no longer with us, her light, laughter, and love will stay. We’ll keep her favorite reels rolling, her stories alive, and remember the beauty she brought to every life she touched.
Debbie was born in 1959 in St. Louis. She traveled across the country and Germany before settling in Hawai‘i with her family in 1968. She graduated from Leilehua High School in 1977 and attended cosmetology school to fulfill her dream of becoming a hairdresser. At the time of her passing, she lived in Ewa Beach with her partner in love, Paul Faith.
