After a lengthy illness, Diane Kotch passed peacefully in her sleep at home with her husband Nathan by her side on January 19, 2024, at their residence in Mililani, where they lived for the past 53 years. She was 92 years old.
Born Yang Sun Sim on October 11, 1931 in Suwon, Korea. In 1958 she met the love of her life, Nathan Kotch, at the age of 31 at Uijongbu and five years later they were married at the American Embassy in Seoul, Korea.
Shortly after they were stationed at the National War College in Washington DC and settled in Alexandria, Virginia where they raised four children. While in Virginia she learned English and studied for her citizenship, which she completed in record time.
In 1970, after her husband completed one last tour in Pusan, Korea, they traveled to Hawaii where he was stationed at Schofield Barracks. They built their home in Mililani. Upon her husband retiring, they opened a successful real estate company, Nathan Kotch Inc. Diane was a co-partner and Vice President for 20 years as a Korean Interpreter for clients wanting to purchase homes and businesses.
She loved ST. JOHN APOSTLE & EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH. They were always found in the front row every Sunday, honoring the crucifix. She volunteered her time cleaning the church while she recited her rosary. She was a member of the Woman's Guild and lived a quiet life with great faith.
She is survived by her husband, Nathan Kotch, sister Chu Cha Crest and her Husband Dave, Sun Ja Mullenix and husband Briane, four children, Marie Pate and her husband Andrew (Tony, Michelle, Rachel), Nathan Kotch Jr. and wife Betty, (Chris, Keoni, Nicholas, Keolani) Kathy Finnie, and Barbara Richeal and her husband Thomas, (Adam, Gabrielle), 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at St. John Apostle & Evangelist Church. A viewing at 10:00 AM with Mass at 11:30 AM. Burial to follow at 1:30 PM at Mililani Memorial Park and Mortuary.
