Our beloved Mom, Grandma, Sister and Aunty Dora peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on June 11, 2025, a month after her 100th birthday.
Born on April 23, 1925 in Paia, Maui, Dora was one of 11 children. She grew up in Kaheka Camp on the Paia Sugar Cane plantation, working at the small camp store while attending Maui High School. After moving to Honolulu to raise her family with husband Tsuyoshi “Maggie” Jinnohara, Dora worked at HMSA for 31 years before retiring in 1987. Dora will be remembered for her playful personality, her generous and caring heart, and her unbeatable cooking skills. She opened her heart and home to many over her 100 years of life. She will be greatly missed.
Dora is survived by her children Dennis (Pamela) Jinnohara and Marsha (Gerald) Nakasone; grandchildren Nandina (Joe) Ustaris, Brendan Jinnohara, Marisa and Camila Nakasone; younger brother Hideo “Saigo” Arakawa; hanai daughter April Tengan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Mililani Mortuary Waipio Makai Chapel. Visitation begins at 9:30 am and service at 10:30 am.
In accordance with her wishes, the family requests no koden or floral wreaths.
