On June 15, 2020, our loving mother passed away peacefully in Honolulu.
Doris was born on February 25, 1916, to Rinzo and Haru Tanaka, who owned Tanaka Shoten in Honouliuli, Ewa, Oahu. Doris was predeceased by brothers Hiroshi (Yasue), Masami (Sachiko), and Thomas (Betsy).
Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Takeo Chinen, in 2014. She is survived by her son Vernon (Joni), daughter Barbara Jean, grandsons Sean, his wife, Shizue, and Kyle.
Doris worked in various sales positions after graduating from McKinley High School. In 1957, at age 41, she moved to Los Angeles, attended Los Angeles Trade Technical – College, and graduated with a Clothing Design Degree. She came back to Honolulu and opened BJ’s Fashions with her husband. She was a hard worker, a fantastic designer, and loved to entertain. Doris and Raymond closed the shop for a week every year and traveled the world. She was also a terrific cook and baker. She baked pies and cream puffs when her children were young and her famous manjus later in retirement and shared with the Spiritual Family.
After retiring, she and her husband took up golfing. They joined the Iolani golf class, made many fun trips to Molokai, and hosted the gang at their condo.
Doris was a devoted member of The Light of Awareness International Spiritual Family. She was so grateful to Beloved Divine Mother for all the Sacrifices made and Love and Grace she received.
