Edward Chun Obituary
Dr. Edward Hing Loy Chun, 92, of Waipahu, Hawaii, passed away on August 8, 2023. He was born on November 2, 1930, in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
Edward is survived by his stepson, Christopher Lewis (Kim); his brother, George Chun; his sisters, Grace Au (Edwin) and Virginia "Polly" Sakoda; four step-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Florence Lewis Chun of Philadelphia.
Edward graduated from Leilehua High School, Class of 1948, and obtained his BS and Masters at the University of Hawaii. Later on, he achieved his PhD in Physical Chemistry at Harvard University, followed by post-doctoral work at MIT. Edward worked for Abbott Laboratories, where he developed the first Hepatitis B diagnostic kits.
After more than 50 years on the mainland, Edward returned to Hawaii to reside in the family home in Wahiawa. For the past 8 years, his nephew, Delbert Kim cared for and coordinated his care. He spent three wonderful years of independent living at Ilima at Leihano and in his recent years, Edward was under the care of Edwin and Teresita Koh at the Esamya Koh Care Home.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, followed by the service at 10:30 am. Inurnment will take place at 11:30 am at Mililani Memorial Park Cemetery.
