Edwin Sen Oi Awana Tam, affectionately known as Eddie or Boysie, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on August 11, 1936, to Edwin and Helen Tam, Boysie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and educator.
Boysie was a proud graduate of the Punahou School, Class of 1954. He dedicated much of his life to teaching, most notably at Aiea Intermediate School, where he taught physical education and Hawaiian Studies. He was known for his dedication to his students and his willingness to provide extra care, often taking children who needed additional attention on weekend excursions to beaches, hiking trails, and various activities around the island.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lenette Tam, and his parents, Edwin and Helen Tam and his siblings Marjorie and Norman. Boysie is survived by his brother Alan, his sister Debbie, his children, David and Maile; his grandchildren, Mikayla, Evan, Jacie, and Jodie. He will be remembered fondly for his generosity, kindness, and passion for helping others.
In his free time, Boysie loved traveling, talking with friends and family, yard work, and volunteering, often alongside his wife. He also enjoyed sharing stories and life lessons, always with humor and a unique flair for embellishment. His storytelling and vibrant personality left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Boysie's legacy of love, dedication, and service will be cherished by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched through his teaching and community involvement.
