Edythe Uilani Kaanapu's Obituary
Edythe Uilani Kaanapu, passed away in Las Vegas on May 26, 2026.
Born to James and Edythe Kaanapu, she grew up in Waipahu in a home filled with music, which became a lifelong passion. Her academic journey took her from Sacred Hearts Academy to St. Martin’s in Washington, before she returned home to Hawaii to complete her degree at the University of Hawaii.
Edythe found her true professional calling at the University of Hawaii, where she served with distinction for over 36 years. As the Supervising Library Technician for Circulation in Access Services, she became a cornerstone of both the Sinclair and Hamilton libraries, supporting countless students and colleagues throughout her tenure.
Beyond her professional achievements, Edythe was a woman who cherished connection. She was a dedicated friend and family member who found joy in the simple act of bringing people together. Whether she was planning a celebration or cooking a delicious meal, she delighted in the accomplishments of those she loved. Her commitment to her communities—from her Sacred Hearts classmates and her university family, to her many cousins and aunts—was profound.
Though she navigated health challenges throughout her life, Edythe’s spirit remained indomitable. She refused to let those challenges define her, choosing instead to live life on her own terms and pursuing her interests with unwavering resolve.
Survived by her Aunt Juanita Lee, loving cousins and countless friends, she will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Mililani Mortuary Downtown. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, with the service to follow at 10:00 AM.
