Elizabeth Mary Leilehua “Betty Lei” Harris Kong Kee passed away on December 1, 2018. Betty Lei was married to husband John Kong Kee for 50+ years. She had 6 children including Florence, Mary, Theresa, John Jr., William and Sam. She helped raise her 4 grandchildren Kolomona & Kamuela Kapanui and Faith & Sage Kong Kee. She was also blessed with 3 Great Grandchildren: Kanai, Phoenix and Kamaehu. Betty Lei was born on December 8, 1945 to Kapua and Verlie Harris and grew up in Kaimuki. Her siblings were George Harris, Verlie Anne Aiu, Mabel Perry, Paulette Jardine, David Harris, Kapua Harris Jr, John Harris and Julie Pascua. She attended Star of the Sea School and Sacred Hearts Academy.
Betty Lei was the epitome of unconditional love and Aloha. She was a devout wife, a kind and compassionate mother, a beautiful sister, helpful cousin and a generous aunty. She opened her heart to many. She volunteered her time and expertise to support her kids schools, her local parish, and also was a care giver for many years. She worked as a Food and Beverage Director in several hotels in Waikiki. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, making Haku leis and playing scrabble. Betty Lei will always be remembered for many things especially her generosity and hospitality.
A Celebration of Life for Betty Lei will be held at Sacred Hearts Academy, St. Margaret Mary Chapel (3253 Waialae Ave) on Saturday June 29, 2019 at 9am and Mass to follow at 11:00am. Carpooling is highly recommended. Aloha Attire. Private inurnment at a later date.
