Elizabeth Mukaisu Obituary
In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Marie Mukaisu
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Elizabeth Marie Mukaisu, on July 26, 2023. She was born on November 1, 1932 in Wailuku, Maui and was raised in Lahaina and baptized at Maria Lanakila Catholic Church.
Elizabeth lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and kindness. She instilled these values in her children and subsequently in her grandchildren. She served the community of Lahaina at King Kamehameha III Elementary as a cook and brought smiles to many at Sunset Freeze on Front Street. Later in life, she relocated to Oahu, where she embraced the full-time role of a loving babysitter.
In her moments of leisure, Elizabeth found solace in 1000+ piece puzzles, savored the act of baking and cooking, and enjoyed the company of the 'Golden Girls' and game shows like 'The Price is Right'. The festive spirit of Christmas held a special place in her heart, evident in the joy and meticulous care with which she decorated her home every Christmas.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Klutchnick, and her son Darrell Mukaisu. She is survived by her sisters Beatrice Sardinha, Pauline Chang, and Judy Sue (Robert); daughters Zelie Kaniho (Kenneth) and Stacey Mukaisu; granddaughters Natassja Balanay (Randall), Tiffany Kaniho, Brannagan Mukaisu (Davin); grandson Kenneth "Jun Jun" Kaniho, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Janessa, Kimi, Janice, Janden, and many other nieces, nephews and family members.
The journey Elizabeth embarked upon was neither simple nor easy. Faced with the challenges of Alzheimer's for over a decade, her strength and resilience remained unyielding. Her sacrifices and triumphs have been the cornerstone of our family's foundation. For those of us blessed to have been shaped by her, the weight of her absence is deeply felt.
Yet, in the profound grief lies a deep gratitude – for the lessons learned, the love received, and the countless memories forged. From joyous Christmas celebrations, enjoying her cooking, to spending summers off from school with her, the moments spent with Elizabeth are irreplaceable treasures.
As we mourn, it is also a time to reflect upon and honor the indomitable spirit of Elizabeth. Her legacy is not just of memories but of values, wisdom, and unyielding strength.
A memorial service in honor of Elizabeth's life will be held on September 28 at 8:45 a.m. at Mililani Memorial Downtown Chapel and a burial to follow at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary in Mililani. Flowers are welcome and the attire is business casual or aloha wear.
From our family to yours we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Elizabeth's legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and the memories that will be cherished forever.
Elizabeth, our dear mother and grandmother, thank you for your unwavering love, the lessons you imparted, and the strength you demonstrated. As we carry you in our hearts, we are comforted by the assurance that your legacy will continue to shine brightly through us.
With all the love we hold, rest in eternal peace and joy.
