In Loving Memory of Elmer A. Pagaragan
September 1, 1954 – May 16, 2026
Elmer Pagaragan, age 71, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 1, 1954, in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Elmer carried with him the values of hard work, humility, service, and love for family throughout his life.
In November 1967, Elmer moved to Hawaii, where he built a life rooted in faith, dedication, music, and community. He graduated from Waipahu High School in 1974 and remained proud of his local roots and lifelong friendships.
Before entering military service, Elmer shared his love for music as a keyboard player for the local band “Da Golden Brown Combo” from April 1972 to October 1977, bringing joy and entertainment to many throughout the community.
On September 4, 1976, Elmer married the love of his life, Heidi Garcia. Together they built a strong and loving family and were blessed with four children, who became the center of his life and greatest pride.
In November 1977, Elmer joined the United States Army, where he honorably served for over 22 years before retiring in February 2000. He served as a Combat Engineer (MOS 12Z5M) and proudly fulfilled duties as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, mentoring and shaping countless soldiers throughout his military career.
During his years of military service, Elmer and his family were stationed and lived in numerous places around the world, including Fort Ord in California, Fort Jackson in South Carolina, Wildflecken in West Germany, Fort Polk in Louisiana, Fort Hood in Texas, Korea, and Fort Benning in Georgia. Through every move and assignment, Elmer remained devoted to both his country and his family.
Following his retirement from the Army in 2000, Elmer continued his commitment to public service through the United States Postal Service, where he worked faithfully for 18 years before retiring.
After retiring from the military, Elmer remained deeply involved in his community and faith. He proudly served as an active board member of the Waipahu United Church of Christ, dedicating his time and leadership in service to others.
During retirement, Elmer truly enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved world traveling, going on cruises, taking road trips, and fun-filled adventures with family and friends. He treasured every opportunity to create memories, explore new places, and spend quality time with the people he loved most.
Elmer was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Heidi Garcia Pagaragan, their four children, and twelve beloved grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.
Elmer’s strength, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of service, sacrifice, music, faith, and family will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
