Thanks sor sharing, helps those of us who didn't grow up with him - you were all so blessed to have these kinds of memories!! When Henny asked me to help Uncle, he said "please help my hero" & I shared with Uncle that Henny said he was hero cause he was so good at swimming, diving, boxing and scrapping at Lum's parking lot, one on one! Real men, not weapons & gangs....that brought him the biggest smile yet he was so humble. Gonna miss that guy!!
He was the "baby" uncle of them all. In his younger days, he and Uncle Elliott were the ones who took us to Waimea Bay and taught us to jump off the rock, go under the rock in the "tunnel" (although I couldn't go because I couldn't hold me breath that long, and when camping at Ka'ena Pt., taught the younger ones to "skin dive" for fish. After getting out of the service, he worked for Honolulu Iron Works and when they closed, he worked as a truck driver at Schofield Barracks. He was proud of his driving skills and won a few awards in the competitions on various islands for driving skills of big trucks.Of course, my favorite story is how his friend Cardinal Thomas called him "Uncle Errol" and he asked him why. Cardi replied, "That's your name. Everyone calls you Uncle Errol. He told him, "that's all my nieces and nephews, that's why." I love that story!!
