Ethelreda Kaiona Antonio's Obituary
Ethelreda Antonio Obituary
Ethelreda Kaiona Shigetani was born on May 14th, 1955.
She spent most of her life on the west side of Oahu. She lived by the ocean at Maili point in the early days. Her memories of this beautiful place stayed with her throughout all her life. There were many times she would recount those days with a huge smile.
There on the west side she met her husband Leonard Maximo Antonio. Upon marriage she became, Ethelreda Kaiona Antonio. She gave birth to 3 children, Leonard Neal Keilikea Antonio, Laken -Ann Kawehionalani Antonio, and Landon Tomas Pomaikai Antonio.
She became an educator at Makaha Elementary school. As time went on many came to know her as "Aunty Reda". Where the name " Aunty" became a defining Title , for a female educator who thinks of all the students as part of her own Ohana. In that way, ALL the kids were her nieces and nephews.
From then on, where ever she went in Waianae you would hear people call out to her and say "HI Aunty, how you doing?" Her reply would be some version of " I'm good babe, how you been? Good to see you!" And with a hug and a kiss, Aloha would be shared. With this we were taught that, Aloha is love.
On July 25th, 2022, the final page of her book of life was written. A book that has too many stories to be contained here. She taught so many how to nurture, give, and love. Although, she no longer walks with us, her lesson of Aloha will always be felt.
It was her wish that her ashes be spread at Maili Point, place where some of her earliest and happiness memories, were lived.
On October 29th, 2022, the Antonio Ohana will be celebrating the memories of her life 2:30pm at Maili Beach Park. Bring your beach chairs, pop-up tents, and refreshments.
