Evelyn Fukumae Obituary
Evelyn Lau Fukumae, a beacon of love and kindness, graced this world with her presence on June 20, 1929, in Honolulu, HI. On May 28, 2025, Evelyn peacefully embarked on her eternal journey in Hale Ola Kino located in One Kalakaua Senior Living in Honolulu, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born as the eldest child to William Wo Kan Lau and Beatrice Yun Kam, Evelyn quickly became a shining example of diligence and compassion in her family. Her dedication to education led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Fifth Year Professional Diploma in Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, setting the stage for a career that would touch countless lives.
Evelyn's journey through life was one of unwavering love and commitment, particularly to her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Clarence Fukumae, and together they created a family rooted in love. Evelyn is survived by her devoted sons, John Fukumae (Danette) and Gary Fukumae, and her loving daughter, Melanie Stanley (Paul). Her grandchildren, John Paul Fukumae (Alice), Scott Fukumae (Jenny), Marisa Stanley, and Kayla Kuha (Josiah), as well as her great-grandchildren, Isla Fukumae and Junia Kuha, are a testament to the love and guidance she so freely gave.
Evelyn's brother, William Lau (Carol), and sister, Marion Stevens, will remember their sister as a cornerstone of the family, always there with wise counsel and a nurturing spirit. Her extended family of relatives and friends will forever cherish the memories of her generosity and kindness.
Professionally, Evelyn was a guiding light in education, shaping young minds as a dedicated elementary school teacher for the Department of Education at Pearl City Highlands Elementary School (PEACHES). Her passion for music and faith intertwined as she served as the organist for Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) in Pearl City, sharing her gift of music with all who entered the sanctuary.
Evelyn lived her faith through her actions, embodying the Christian principles of love and service. Her hands, so often caressing the keys of the piano and organ, were also extended in aid to anyone in need. Her love for live music, travel, and the joy of discovery were facets of her vibrant spirit, but it was her family that remained her paramount joy.
Evelyn's life was a symphony of loving, generous, and kind acts that created a melody of goodwill resonating in the hearts of those she encountered. Her smile was a universal language that transcended words and brought comfort and joy to all. As a motivational speaker inspires their audience to reach for their best selves, Evelyn's life story encourages us to cultivate love, prioritize family, and spread kindness in our daily lives.
Today, we celebrate Evelyn Lau Fukumae, a remarkable woman whose legacy is not merely in the past but lives on through the echoes of her love and the lives she has shaped.
