Fortunato Barcena Rulloda's Obituary
Fortunato Barcena Rulloda Obituary
It is with a heart full of cherished memories and profound love that we announce the peaceful passing of Fortunato Barcena Rulloda. He was affectionately known as Ford to many, and “Atong” by close friends and family. He passed away on July 2, 2024, at The Queens Medical Center West. Born on April 15, 1936. Ford’s life was a testament to the enduring strength of love and family.
Ford’s journey began in Buyongbong, Nueva Viscaya Philippines, where the country side cradled his youth. The Rulloda family migrated to Wahiawa to work in pineapple plantations (Poamoho Camp) in 1946. He graduated from Leilehua High School, class of 1956. Ford’s role as a husband for 47 years to his late wife, Mary Ruth M Rulloda, who preceded him in death, in June 2022 was one of unwavering partnership and shared dreams. Our mom often reminded us all, that she married him twice as she knew it was a match made in heaven. Together, they raised a family that became the cornerstone of their existence.
A retired full-time Mililani High School custodian & fry cook at Leeward Drive Inn. Ford’s love and guidance shaped the lives of his 3 children, Marlene (Al) Perdido, Bernina (Anthony) Valdez & Jamilee (Nick) Vail, who, in turn, blessed him with a legacy of 6 grandchildren. Niyah Marie; Christian Anthony; Janeena; Savannah Mary; Charlotte Alexandria and Lilianna. He leaves behind a family that spans generations, including his living siblings Rudolfo "Rudy" Rulloda, Federico "Fred" (Corrine) Rulloda and Mary Julie (Mike) Vozel along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nephews and grand nieces. He is preceded in death by siblings, Rosendo "Sid" "Sindong" Rulloda & Raymundo "Ray" "Eming" Rulloda
Everyone that befriended Ford, knew our dad was a hard working, quiet and patient man. His aura emitted humility and he always had an easy-going personality, which made him a friend to many and he was easy love, adore and admire. You could only part ways with him wearing a smile and a lasting impression of a very kind hearted and generous man. His physical presence will be missed but his love and legacy will live on through each one of us that had him in their lives.
Ford’s life was a reflection of his dedication to provide, nurture and support his family. His grandchildren will forever remember him as the patriarch who instilled in them values such as the importance of a strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, respect, and the importance of family. They will carry forward his teachings (gardening & carpentry) and the many joyful moments they shared like traveling to Las Vegas for vacation & road trips driving across the US. He was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He loved his garden and often shared its harvest of fruits and vegetables with neighbors and friends. He took tremendous pride in upkeeping Mom's anthuriums after her passing. He also planted many tropical flowers so that our mom would have an abundance of flora to decorate her grave. He looked forward to being first in line to pick up Lily from school. He found it magical to receive Amazon packages. He cherished letters & cards delivered by mail. His favorite food is sari-sari. He was finally getting the hang of using his iPhone & scrolling thru Netflix as our dad enjoyed all types of movies, both old and new.
Dad, we love and miss you so very much. You finally have Mom again by your side. May the sacrifices you made in this life serve you well in the next, through God’s infinite and divine mercy. We will pray for you always. Please pray for us, too…that one day we will all be reunited in our true home Heaven, in Jesus Christ’s most Holy Name. La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc, Cause of Our Joy, intercede for us!
May the angels lead you into paradise; May the martyrs receive you at your arrival,
And lead you to the holy city Jerusalem.
May the choirs of angels receive you, And with Lazarus, once poor, May you have eternal rest.
Eternal rest grant onto, our beloved Dad, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. Requiescat in pace. In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Our Lady of Sorrows, Wahiawa. Visitation begins at 10:00am and service at 12:00 pm. Burial to follow, 1:30pm at Mililani Memorial Park Cemetery.
