Fred Suan Daguman, 101 years young, died at his home in Waipahu surrounded by family, on January 3rd, 2022 of natural causes. Fred was born in Pau'uilo, Hawaii, and the eldest son of now deceased Isidro Daguman and Rupina Suan Daguman.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Plaza Daguman, daughter, Rebecca Daguman, younger brother, Joseph Daguman, and great grandchildren, Joshua Adams and Miyah Copada. Fred leaves behind one sister, five children, 20 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren.
Fred was a civilian Navy Truck Driver during the bombing of Pearl Harbor who received countless accollades for safety, driving for over 30 years without incident. He was also part of the Oahu Volunteer Infantry, organized in the early days of World War II during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 thru the end of the war on August 14, 1945. Fred was a Staff Sargeant in Company 1 under the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Regiment of the Oahu Volunteer Infantry.
Fred was also an accomplished athlete, highlighted by capturing the Majors World Championships in 1995 as the Hawaii 75's pitcher. With a lifetime of baseball and softball under his belt, Fred captured numerous championships with various teams over his 50+ year softball career, traveling to nearly all the outer islands, Kansas, California, Nevada, and Arizona. His teammates would come to request his presence at these games so much, that they often would pay for his tickets and hotel fees just to have him there for the team. As softball captured Fred's heart, he also was an avid golfer, favoring the course at Turtle Bay in Kahuku, a bowler, fisherman and diver. He enjoyed an active life, drawing many certificates of lifetime achievements from the Mayor and Governor's offices of the State of Hawaii. He also starred in an HMSA commercial where he is shown hitting a homerun with none other than his grandchildren on the sidelines cheering him on to home plate.
Fred, the patriarch of the Daguman family, will be forever missed, and never forgotten.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at St. Joseph Church, 94-675 Farrington Highway, Waipahu. Visitation begins at 10:00 am, and funeral mass at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at 12:30 pm at Mililani Memorial Park, Waipio.
