Fred Takayasu Murata's Obituary
Fred Takayasu Murata, age 90 of Pearl City, Hawaii passed away on April 8, 2026. He was born in Honouliuli on March 19, 1936, the youngest of nine children, to Testu and Katsuhei Murata.
Fred grew up in Honouliuli and attended Ewa schools until he decided to attend Mid-Pacific Institute where he made life-long friends. He graduated from Mid-Pacific in 1954.
Fred joined the Army and later got his Master’s in Education from the University of Hawaii. He began his career with the Department of Education first as a teacher then in administration. He served in many positions, including Vice Principal at Campbell High School and retired as Vice Principal of the Waipahu Community School for Adults. While working in the community school for adults, he and his colleagues developed a nationally recognized program for adults of all ages to earn a high school diploma equivalency.
Fred enjoyed all sports and was a good baseball player, but he loved to golf. When he retired, he told his family not to schedule anything for the next year because he was golfing every day.
Fred is survived by his wife (Ruby), daughter (Shari) and son-in-law (Chuck). He was predeceased by his son (Kurtis) who passed last year. Services will be held at the Mililani Mortuary- Mauka on Saturday, July 11th. Viewing will begin at 10:00am, service at 11:00am with refreshments to follow. Please, no koden or flowers.
