German Nuestro Obituary
German P. Nuestro of Kapolei, Hawaii, or “Jerry” as he was called by his friends, was called to rest at the age of 83 on May 22, 2019, while visiting his beloved place of birth: Cavite, Philippines. He was one of 12 children born to Benito and Beatriz Nuestro.
In 1957, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. While on active duty from 1970 to 1975, he served as manager for the Commissioned Officers Club at Naval Air Station Barbers Point. From 1975 to 1979, he served as a VIP-flight crewman for squadron VC-1, NAS Barbers Point Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet (CINCPACFLT). And from 1979 to 1981, he served as warehouse supervisor for the Commissary Store at Pearl Harbor/Barbers Point. After retiring from the Navy, from 1981 to 1992, Jerry served as manager of the Officers Club and NCO Club at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Camp H.M. Smith.
Jerry was a loving husband, father and papa. He enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, ballroom dancing with his wife, and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Nuestro, daughter Raquel Haydu (George) of Honolulu, son Marvin Nuestro (Tricia) of Kapolei, son German Nuestro, Jr. (Maria Eugenia) of Guam, sister Flora Nuestro Romento of Las Vegas, sister Diosa Nuestro Sinlao of Cavite, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, July 9 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Makakilo. Visitation will be from 9:15-10:15 a.m., Mass from 10:15-11:30 a.m. and Burial Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.
