Ginger Sato Obituary
GINGER SHIENO (HARADA) SATO
87, of Mililani, passed away on January 19, 2021 at home. She was born in Puunene, Maui and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1951. Her career working in the Federal Government spanned over 36 years and she spent the last 20 of those years at Schofield’s Family Housing Department where she retired as an Assistant Housing Manager.
She was a devoted Army soldier’s wife and would often send care packages to him during his two deployments overseas. She was grateful that they were stationed in Okinawa, Texas and California because she had the opportunity to visit relatives in Japan and on the mainland, experience snow for the first time, and travel to some of her favorite places like Disneyland and the Hearst Castle.
Prior to being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1997, Ginger was an avid bowler and joined the Monday Night Retirees, Wahiawa Kyoyukai and Rainbow Leagues at Schofield and her passion was cooking for family and friends. Even after the Parkinson’s and spinal stenosis progressed, requiring the use of a wheelchair for mobility from 2008, she continued one of her favorite pastimes of playing cards, remained a huge loyal fan of UH sports (football and wahine/men’s volleyball), enjoyed trips to Las Vegas (Harada Family Reunions), looked forward to attending holiday luncheons with her girlfriends, and loved spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Mililani Hongwanji and attended the Adult Day Care at their site for a few years.
Ginger’s smile will be missed and her strength and spirit will always be admired.
