"In Loving Memory"
Gloria Ann Pongasi
May 24, 1946 - October 18, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to our beloved Gloria Ann Pongasi. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts. Gloria was a woman of many passions and unique traits that brought joy and warmth to those around her. She was a lover of the simple things in life, like gazing up at the night sky, marveling at the moon and stars, which always filled her with wonder. She found great peace and satisfaction in the little things, such as hanging her clothes on the line, where she was efficient and proud of her work. She always enjoyed doing yard work, weed whacking, and tending to her potted plants. Her favorite flowers were gardenias and ginger, which always brightened her space.
Moving to Aiea after living in Wahiawa for a very long time brought her a sense of joy and fulfillment, a stark contrast to the years spent in apartments. She cherished her new space and the freedom it offered. One of her greatest pleasures was fishing in Haleiwa, a pastime she excelled at and loved deeply. With her trusty bucket and cooler filled with her peanut butter or tuna sandwich for lunch and home-made bait. She would spend hours by the water, a skill she perfected over the years.
Gloria was incredibly creative and resourceful, with a talent for sewing and crafting beautiful bottle cap hot plates. Her love for learning was evident, whether she was tackling word match and math worksheets or immersing herself in a good textbook, with the bible, especially Psalm 23 being her favorite passage.
Her tastes were simple but full of life - she enjoyed healthy foods like apple bananas, papayas, broccoli, cucumbers, poke and poi. Yet, she had a soft spot for snacks like BBQ chips, chocolates, mini drumsticks, assorted mochi and even the occasional Vienna sausage or canned salmon. She dressed casually always in a t-shirt and shorts, comfortable and practical with plenty of pockets for whatever she might need.
Throughout the week Gloria attended the Kahale Olu Olu Akahai, Inc. day program where she continued her love for learning with math and English worksheets and enjoyed community outings like bowling. Gloria's kindness, strength, and laughter left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her smiles, playful nature and laughter will surely be missed.
We find peace in knowing that Gloria is now resting in the loving arms of our Lord. Her memory will continue to live on in our hearts forever.
