Guillermo Rafanan Paulmino's Obituary
Guillermo Paulmino Obituary
Guillermo "Paul" Rafanan Paulmino, 96 of Honolulu, passed away on January 29, 2020 in Honolulu.
If you've ever met our father, known mostly to all as Uncle Paul, you could've never guess his age because he was always so full of energy and always "on the go". He was a humble man, who loved and cared for his family, his extended family, and friends. We're honored to share his story and celebrate his life together.
Paul was born in Urdaneta, a province of Pangasinan, Philippines. He was the eldest of eight siblings and worked hard to support his family. When he was sixteen, he became a guerrilla fighter for the United States...earning a Congressional Gold Medal award, which he was so proud to receive. When the war ended, he went to Manila to attend Far Eastern University, with studies in arts and sciences, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. In 1947 he relocated to Okinawa to pursue a position with the United States Federal Government as an accountant for the Army Corps of Engineers. There, he met our mother Eleanor; they wed and had five children.
In 1969, Paul lost his job with the Army Corps of Engineers due to RIF's (reduction in force). Intent on retaining a Federal position, he made the decision to relocate to Hawai'I; he left on his own, without our family. His plan was to secure and retain the same position he had in Okinawa. Also, in order to make for a smooth transition for our relocation, purchase a home. It was a sacrifice our parents made, together. It took five years of separation for their dream to come true.
Our parents loved to have family gatherings and would arrange many house parties bringing their loved ones together in celebration. They eventually retired and were able to enjoy the rest of their 69 years of marriage, together. They loved dancing and traveling, especially to their favorite place, Las Vegas.
We all will miss him and we treasure this time to come together to carry on his legacy of celebration with stories and remembrance of his caring heart. We look forward to celebrating with you the life of Guillermo Paulmino, whom we all hold so dear to our heart.
He is survived by his children: Sons: Cesar Paulmino, Arturo Paulmino, Rudolfo Paulmino, Reynaldo Paulmino, and daughter Rebecca Paulmino. Sisters: Avelina Paulmino, Epifania Paulmino, and Irene Paulmino. Grandchildren: Jackielyn Paulmino and Adrianne Paulmino.
