Harriet Fusako Fukunaga's Obituary
Harriet Fukunaga (Fusako Higa), a devoted mother, avid golfer, and lifelong resident of Hawaii, passed away peacefully just after celebrating her 100th birthday. Born in Hawaii on August 20, 1925, to parents who had immigrated from Okinawa, Japan, Harriet embodied the resilient spirit and aloha of the islands she cherished.
Harriet’s life was defined by her unwavering love for her family and her vibrant circle of close girlfriends. She found immense joy in the simple beauties of nature, possessing a green thumb that brought forth spectacular blooms. Her gardens were a testament to her patience and care, filled with her favorite flowers, especially vivid anthuriums and delicate orchids.
A true enthusiast of the links, Harriet was an avid golfer who not only loved playing the game but organizing it as well. She channelled her organizational skills into managing and running countless golf tournaments for her friends, fostering community and competition with grace and enthusiasm. When she wasn't on the course herself, she could often be found watching a tournament, forever a student and fan of the sport.
