Harry Higa Obituary
Harry Koye Higa passed away on June 1, 2023, he was 94. Harry was born on January 21, 1929 to Ushi & Kame Higa in Makawao, Maui. He came from a family of 14 children and his parents owned their pineapple farm in Maui.
Harry worked as an auto mechanic from 1947-1951 until he enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He did his training at Schofield Barracks and was set to head to Korea until mention of his mechanic background changed his future. Harry ended up being stationed in Japan and in 1953 he would be honorably discharged as a corporal and he would accept civil service employment at Camp Tokyo. Alice Matsuo would follow him from Hawaii and they wed on October 31, 1953. They raised two beautiful daughters and moved back to Oahu in 1977. He continued working in Honolulu for the Navy at Manana Supply Depot as a warehouse supervisor until he retired in 1989.
Harry is survived by his 2 daughters Anne (Reinold) Butac and Naomi Hamamura, grandchildren Ryan (Machiko) Butac, Terrianne (Derrick) Zonca, and Nicole Hamamura, and 2 great granddaughters Chia Butac and Mia Butac; sisters Mildred Ige, Sister Mary Louise (Thelma) Higa and Theodora (Calvin) Nakagawa.
Harry will be greatly missed by his family and will be reunited with his loving wife Alice, his parents Ushi & Kame, and his siblings Hatsue, Koken, Edna, Kikue, Gladys, Ellen, Harriet, Kosei, Yoshie, & Masa.
Celebration of Life Service for Harry Koye Higa will be held on July 10th at Mililani Downtown Mortuary. Public viewing will start at 5:30 pm and service will follow at 6:30 pm. Burial service with Military Honors will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl on July 13, 2023 at 9:30 am.
