Herb enjoyed a 30+ year career with the Hawaii Department of Education holding various positions of teacher, counselor, vice-principal, principal, and personnel specialist.
Students and colleagues alike remember him fondly.
He retired in 1993 and continued to enjoy all that he loved including good food, good friends, and travel to Asia, Europe, and favorite U.S. destinations.
But his greatest passion was being a grandfather. He attended his grandchildren's sporting events, school programs, and graduations whether near or far. His grandchildren will remember playing cribbage, watching sports on TV, or just hanging out with him.
At the time of his death, he and Kay were two days shy of their 56th wedding anniversary.
The family is comforted knowing that he was surrounded by so many that loved him at his passing.
