Hideaki Mitsui's Obituary
Hideaki Mitsui Obituary
Hide was born on Yamaguchi-Ken, Oshima, on November 9, 1946, and is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dale; his siblings Shigemitsu and wife, Mitsuo and wife, and Hiroyuki; children Dana-Michelle & Peter LaPlante, Shaun, and Stephanie-Lynn Mitsui; and grand-children Bailey-Michelle, Kylie-Michelle, Brady, Eric, Mia, Ashlynn, Micah, Makayla, and Banks. Hide was predeceased by his parents, Hideo and Chieko (Kawahara), and one sister, Michiko.
Hide passed peacefully at home on November 29, 2023, with his family by his side. Hide moved to Hawaii in 1968 to live with his grandmother Kimoto, traveling from Oshima to Oahu by ship. Hard work and determination were two traits Hide embodied and stressed throughout his life, both of which were demonstrated by his tenacity after arriving on the island, taking classes to become proficient in English, and studying to become an Accountant while working during the day to support his goals. Hide met Dale while working at Poi Bowl in 1970 and would often talk about stories about how they met and whom he would eventually marry in 1972.
Hide worked for Nakakura Construction as an Accountant and then as a Vice President and Treasurer for Pan-Pacific Construction after they merged with another Company. Hide then worked for Robert M Kaya Builders as a Controller until 2016, when he finally retired. He was proud of his Japanese nationality but also embraced his American Citizenship, becoming a United States Citizen on May 1, 1985. Hide enjoyed many activities, an avid golfer, a softball player, and a proud supporter of his many grandchildren’s sports. Hide took pride in his mikan, different fruit trees, orchids, and Dale’s favorite rose bushes in his backyard home garden; he often brought home cuttings from plants and transplanted them around his home, a lot of which continue to grow year after year. Hide enjoyed traveling, making yearly trips to Vegas and Maine to stay with his grandchildren as much as possible, often sacrificing the warmth of home to brave the snow and cold.
Hide will be remembered by family and friends as a generous soul, working hard and offering whatever he had to anyone in need and everyone he loved. He struggled the last few years of his life with an unfortunately fast-progressing Parkinson’s dementia, needing extra care and support to continue with his needs, with his loving wife at his side taking care of him daily. Hide’s family would like to send a special thank you to the kind and very caring hospice team at St Francis Hospice. Hide’s team provided wonderful care, and their support and guidance throughout his sometimes difficult daily journey was greatly appreciated.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel. Visitation begins at 5:30 pm; and service starts at 6:30 pm.
